Physician Assistant Inpatient - Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant


POSITION SUMMARY:


Provides patient care services under the direction of a physician for the Medical Center. Responsible for developing and implementing patient care treatment plans. Orders diagnostic tests such as radiographic and laboratory, interpreting results under the direction of a Physician. Consult with physicians when necessary to assess patient condition and treatment. Instructs patients and family members regarding treatments and education.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Provides patient care services under the direction of a physician in an inpatient setting.

Responsible for developing and implementing patient care treatment plans.

Actively participates in quality improvement, program development and professional growth activities for self while assisting in the professional development of others.

Provides for a safe environment and safe delivery of services.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:



Education: Graduate of an accredited educational program in Physician Assisting. Master’s Degree in PA preferred.

Experience: None

License/Certification: Licensed to practice as a Physician Assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia required. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

The BMT Physician Assistant has both inpatient and outpatient responsibilities. Under the general supervision of the Pediatric BMT Team, the PA role includes the following:



BMT PA will coordinate apheresis procedures and follow-up patients receiving these procedures including writing apheresis orders



BMT PA will be able to independently evaluate bone marrow transplant donors and consent them for bone marrow or PBSC donation



BMT PA will provide care for pediatric BMT inpatients including signing admission orders, evaluating patients and managing pediatric bone marrow transplant patients under the supervision of pediatric BMT attending physicians as needed for coverage



BMT PA will assist to coordinate post-transplant care of pediatric bone marrow transplant patients including: follow-up of laboratory tests, making changes in medications based on test results, communicating with patients, families, and referring physicians and nurses from referring institutions, calling in prescriptions and refills, signing home care orders and arranging home care, signing orders for transfusions, laboratory tests, hydration, etc.



BMT PA will also manage BMT outpatients including evaluating laboratory and other testing needed prior to outpatient visits, seeing patients in outpatient clinic, managing medications and prescriptions, interacting with homecare services, generating letters to referring doctors under the supervision of the BMT attending physicians.


Pay Range: $81,078.40 – $129,729.60
