Candidates will consistently update their skills and knowledge relevant to pediatric practice as they incorporate evidence-based practice into their day-to-day role.

Texas Children’s Hospital Surgical Physician Assistant Fellowship Program provides advanced pediatric surgical training to physician assistants. It is the first of its kind in the country to offer a 12-month didactic and clinical pediatric training program. Our fellowship ensures a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a full spectrum of pediatric surgical subspecialties, and to become a leader in all areas of pediatric surgery. Surgical subspecialties include: congenital heart surgery, general pediatric surgery, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, orthopedic surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, trauma, urology, and an innovative new addition, surgical hospitalists.

The one-year program includes in-depth clinical pediatric surgical subspecialty experience including two weeks of basic laboratory research. Each participating fellow then elects three surgical divisions to focus on during the course of the program. Training will be provided in clinics, on the surgical floors and in the operating room and will involve pre-, intra- and post-operative care. In addition to the clinical training, the fellowship program offers a robust didactic curriculum to include CME accredited weekly lectures by our world renowned physician’s, cadaver lab, simulation labs, and suture workshops.

Texas Children’s Hospital is ranked as the best children’s hospital in Texas and among the top in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. Our Department of Surgery, a significant contributor to this reputation, is driven by a professional staff that thrives on providing the highest quality surgical care in a collaborative environment supported by a multi-disciplined team approach.
