Summary
This position is located at our Domiciliary Unit. The RN is responsible for assessments, diagnosis, and medication management for veterans with acute exacerbation of mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders, as well as a variety of co-morbid chronic medical illnesses. The primary area this nurse will work is under the supervision of the Unit Manager of the Domiciliary Unit. This position may be expected to work in other areas of mental health patient care services including inpatient.

Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to:

Function as a member of an interdisciplinary team of professionals on the inpatient psychiatric/domiciliary unit.
Completes psychiatric /medical nursing admission assessments, develops, and implements plans of care.
Conducts on-going reassessment of patient health care need; updating plans of care accordingly.
Provides direct patient care for medical and psychiatric needs of the patient.
Conducts psychoeducation groups for patients and families.
Attends and participates in treatment planning meetings.
Serve on committees and task forces at the unit level, service level (Psychiatry) and Medical Center level, or VISN or National committees as assigned by the inpatient psychiatry Unit Manager or Chief, PCS/Mental Health.
Assists veterans in developing and meeting short-term goals.
Safely administers and documents oral and IM psychotropic medications.
Documents treatment per unit, nursing, and psychiatry service policies and in the proper timeframes.
Assists in behavioral emergencies, applying seclusion/restraints in clinically appropriate situations.
Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering care.

Work Schedule: 7:30a-4:00p, 3:30p-12:00a, and 11:30p-8:00a
