The Cancer Center Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Manager is a licensed physician assistant (PA) or advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who is responsible for providing clinical care for patients as well as providing direct oversight and coordination of services provided by APPs and other healthcare personnel across multiple sections/departments of the Cancer Service Line. The Cancer Center APP Manager will partner with the Rush University Cancer Center Medical Director on strategic projects and serve as a direct manager for APP Leads representing APPs grouped by subspecialty. This role will aid in the continued success of the Rush University Cancer Center and play a crucial role in the management of patient volumes, compliance with quality programs and continued patient satisfaction. This includes but is not limited to: recruitment and onboarding, training and performance oversight, professional development and day-to-day operations and troubleshooting for all members of the healthcare team assigned to the APP Manager. In addition to direct managerial oversight, this individual will be responsible for collaborating with the Department Chair, Section Directors, Service Line Administrator or other assigned service line leadership to create, promote and evaluate clinical and administrative priorities for the service line, including budget. This individual will be provided with 0.40 FTE protected administrative time and may also be responsible for scheduling, alignment of department quality & safety initiatives, and development of department policies and procedures. The individual who holds this position will exemplify the Rush mission, vision and values and act in accordance with the policies, procedures, guidelines of Rush, including the Rush University Medical Group Customer Service standards. Successful candidates will also meet all other state and federal regulatory practice and accreditation standards.

Job Qualifications

Knowledge (PA):
1. Current State of Illinois Physician Assistant Licensure required.
2. Current Certification from National Certification Commission for
Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required.
3. Degree from an ARC-PA (or predecessor) accredited PA Program required; Master’s or Doctorate degree preferred.
4. BLS certification required.

Knowledge (APRN):

1. Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Licensure required.
2. Current Nurse Practitioner Certification from a national certifying organization Graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner educational program.
3. The APRN’s education and specialty board certification must correlate with the APP’s job role, setting, responsibility and patient population.
4. Master’s or Doctorate degree in nursing required.
5. BLS certification required.

Skills/Abilities (APP Manager):

1. Minimum 5-7 years of experience as a clinically practicing APRN or PA required.
2. Minimum 2-3 years of previous leadership and/or management required.
3. Demonstrates competency in all areas of APRN and PA practice including: medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, patient care, professionalism, practice based learning and improvement, and systems based practice.
4. Knowledge of healthcare business practices and operations including CMS and The Joint Commission Guidelines.
5. Familiarity with federal, state, and local APRN and PA policies including billing and reimbursement.
6. Skill in preparing and maintaining electronic and paper medical records
7. Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches in area of expertise.
8. Strong work ethic, interpersonal and communication skills, and leadership qualities.
9. Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with collaborating physician, department, and other members of the healthcare team in an effective and comprehensive manner.
