Overview
The Orthopaedic Trauma Physician Assistant will assist with the management of inpatient and outpatient orthopaedic trauma patients, and may also assist in surgery as needed.

Responsibilities
The Physician Assistant will augment the physician's ability to provide medical services to patients through:

Patient Assessment, Diagnosis & Treatment - Obtains a relevant health and medical history, performs a physical examination both focused and comprehensive, depending on patient needs, identifies health risks and needs, updates and records changes in health status, assesses mental and functional status. Formulates an appropriate differential diagnosis based on history, physical exam and clinical findings, identifies needs of the individual, and family as a result of the patient interview (history) and physical exam. Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures. Carry out therapeutic procedures such as cast application and removal, wound suturing and dressing changes; monitor progress of patients, report patient's progress to supervising physician.
Development/Implementation of Plan of Care -Participates in team rounds for developement of a plan of care that maximizes the patient's health potential. Follows up on the client by phone calls, rounds, scheduled visits and lab results. Facilitates patient participation and self-care when able, and provides information to patients and families in order for them to make decisions and choices about their health care. Participates as a team member in patient care conferences with other health disciplines and uses a team approach to the provision of care. Participates in clinical case conferences and other department and campus meetings as appropriate.
Documentation & Billing - Responsible for accurate and complete documentation that supports both patient care & billing. Writes progress notes and narrative discharge summaries; prepares patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings. Maintains record of each patient's progress.
Assist in surgery or with other assigned duties as needed.
Qualifications
Graduate of a nationally accredited PA program.

Physician’s Assistant Certificate of Registration with th Arkansas Medical Board or be certification eligible, and be certified as a Physician’s Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Current BLS certification or must successfully obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.

Must be eligible for prescriptive authority certificate.

Ability to communicate and interpret complex written and verbal messages, complex reasoning, judgment problem-solving and calculations required.

Basic computer skills required.

Previous experience in orthoapedic surgery or other surgical specialties is preferred.
