Midwest Bone & Joint has an immediate need for a Physician Assistant. This PA would work with a fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in total joint replacements. This PA would split their time between first assisting in the OR and seeing patients in a clinic setting. Practice offers excellent compensation and benefits package.

Duties and Responsibilities for the Physician Assistant:

Assists the physician in the outpatient clinic and hospital settings following protocols established by the physician and written practice guidelines to facilitate effective medical care and patient safety.

1. Assists the physician in the hospital.

• Makes rounds on patients and conducts physical examinations, educates the patients, and assists in the development of treatment plans.
• Assesses patients pre and postoperatively
• Writes/initiates orders utilizing protocols prepared by the physician into hospital EMR.
• Completes all discharge summaries and face to face encounters in EMR.
• Medical case review of all scheduled surgical patients one week prior to surgery with notification to physician of any concerns.

2. Assists the physician in the operating room during surgery.

3. Examines and cares for patients in the outpatient clinic.

• Administers medications (e.g. injections)
• Writes prescriptions per protocol under physician supervision
• Assists in the development of treatment plans
• Dictates progress notes
• Educates patients regarding their medical condition and treatment
4. Becomes more independent in office over time performing follow-ups, evaluations and injections.

5. Participates in hospital and other teaching programs.

6. Assists with stocking of clinical supplies within the patient care areas.

7. Maintains cleanliness of the patient care areas.

8. Completes other comparable duties and assignments as directed by the physician.

Qualifications

1. Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program with completed residency.

2. Physician Assistant state licensure.

3. Effective written and verbal communication.

4. Able to lift and assist patients, as needed.

Supervisory Relationship

• Reports to the Physician

Call

• Is “on-call” as scheduled to provide patient care during “off-hours”.
• Takes all call: 8 weekends per calendar year, 3 weekdays/alternate months (4). 2-3 assigned holidays chosen at randon
