Summary:

We are looking for a Physician Assistant for our Surgical Hospitalist specialty, someone who works well in a fast-paced hospital setting. You will provide medical services within the education, training and experience of the physician assistant, through delegation of the supervising physician in the department of Pediatric Surgery. We are looking for Physician Assistants that have at least 2 years of surgical or Emergency Room experience.

The Surgical Hospitalist handles a wide variety of patients collaborating regularly with other specialty groups supporting a 24/7, 365-day a year department. This position includes inpatient/surgical emergency center consultations, operating room First-Assist, and perioperative coverage.

Responsibilities :

Provide quality patient care within the education, training and experience of the physician assistant, through delegation of the supervising physician within in inpatient, outpatient and operating room settings
Work independently to assess, diagnose, treat, and educate patients, consulting with physician as needed
Provide appropriate clinical documentation using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system for all patient encounters.
Perform comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations for all patients
Participate in daily rounds for pediatric surgery patients
Perform minor surgical procedures independently
Collaborate effectively with physicians, PAs, NPs, nurses and our resident team
Communicate effectively with patients, families and clinical team
Expedite surgical patients through the emergency room
Collaborate with multiple specialties

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree
Current license from Texas Medical Board to practice in the State of Texas
Current certification by National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants
Desired Skills & Experience

Master’s degree
Current BLS and PALS certification
Fundamental knowledge of pediatric assessment and treatment
Knowledge of related OSHA, CLIA and JCAHO guidelines and requirements
