The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner II (NNP) is an advanced practice nurse who provides medical management of critically ill neonates in conjunction with attending neonatologists. The role includes responsibility for diagnosis and comprehensive management of acute and chronic conditions. Practice includes, but is not limited to ordering, conducting assessments, interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests, prescription of pharmacologic agents and treatments and non-pharmacologic therapies under advances practice protocol, and in a cost efficient manner. Works autonomously as well as in collaboration variety of NICU sub-specialty and interdisciplinary staff to diagnose and manage neonates in an intensive care setting. Serve as health care resources, interdisciplinary consultants and patient advocates. Scope of practice includes clinical management, education and standards for professional practice. The NNP demonstrates commitment to a patient and family focused model of care.
